There\u2019ll be a lot to take in when you move to Canada so the last thing you want to worry about is driving your car once we\u2019ve shipped it across the water for you. So we\u2019ve jotted down a few points to make things easier, we want you to stay safe driving in a different country!<\/p>\n
Stay to the right<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
Hopefully the revelation that Canadians drive on the right won\u2019t come as too much of a shock. Really you should already know this but don\u2019t worry if you have only just discovered this fact, take it easy and driving on the right will soon become second nature to you.<\/p>\n
Wear seat belts<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
The laws relating to seat belts are the same in Canada as they are in the UK so buckle up on every trip. Insist that passengers wear seat belts as well, you can be fined for not making your passengers aware.<\/p>\n
Watch for speed limits<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
Again, there are speed restrictions in place in Canada just like the UK so please bear these in mind. In built-up areas the maximum speed is 50km\/h and on motorways the fastest you can travel is 100km\/h.<\/p>\n
Familiarise yourself with varying road conditions<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
Canada is vast, it\u2019s the world\u2019s second-largest country and if you drove coast to coast you\u2019d cross six different time zones. Along the way there are different types of roads, some of which are similar to the UK, you\u2019ll travel down highways and venture down remote country lanes where there\u2019s nothing to see but Mother Nature in all her glory.<\/p>\n
Watch out for wildlife!<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
In remote country locations it\u2019s not uncommon to find an elk, deer or moose standing in your path. This isn\u2019t something you are generally used to back in the UK<\/strong><\/a>, okay you might find the odd rabbit in your headlights but that\u2019s about as scary as it gets. Look out for road signs that give you early warnings of wild animals, you don\u2019t want to meet a moose when travelling at speed, the consequences can be fatal.<\/p>\n Canada is generally a safe place to drive if you follow the rules of the road and take it steady when you are getting used to driving in the country.
